A 16-year-old boy has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of GBH with intent to violently attack two teenage boys and a member of staff at a private school.
Devon and Cornwall Police said weapons were found at the scene following the incident at Blundell School in Tiverton on Friday.
Police said both students were in hospital, one in a critical condition and the other in a serious but stable condition. The staff member has been discharged from the infirmary – the police update said.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Exeter Magistrates Court on Monday and remains in police custody.
Blundell’s is a state co-educational school for students aged 3 to 18 with boarding and day pupils. From Year 9, senior boarders pay £41,325 per year, while students in Years 7 and 8 pay around £28,000 per year.
Superintendent Anthony Hart told reporters: “We are still establishing what happened in the early hours of this morning and extensive investigations continue.
“Our investigation is being assisted by experts who are assessing the injuries sustained and their cause. While we can confirm that there were some weapons at the scene, it would be inappropriate to speculate on how these weapons were involved while we continue our investigation.
“Our first priority is to fully investigate this incident and to support the victims, their families and the school community. Our hearts go out to the boys, men and loved ones who have been hurt.”
The school has emailed for comments.
