Who was Ian H Beggs ?

Ian was Honorary Secretary of the club for many years as well as one of the founding members of the Carrick Sevens. He was also a stalwart of the Ulster Branch being awarded the Mr. Boots Award, the Dorrington B Faulkner Award, and the position of Honorary President Vice President of Ulster Rugby.

In Ian 2016 was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for his services to rugby. The following is an extract of the interview with Ian a few years ago that truly reflects his contribution to the club. It was a September evening in 1956 when Ian was unwittingly recruited into the administrative fold. His brother and a group of friends were, they told him, off to the Annual General Meeting of Carrickfergus Rugby Club.
